Yawulyu Showcase x BMF

Fri 12 Mar 2021 Evening

Yawulyu is a culturally safe place for First Nation women, girls, non-binary and trans people to explore live performance, with a focus on emerging artists. Yawulyu (also pronounced Walagee) is derived from the Walpiri language meaning women’s ceremony, women’s design, women’s songs.

Carissa Nyalu is a Yorta Yorta Dja Dja Wurrung singer/songwriter based on Boonwurrung Country on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Her love for being on country and out in nature, mixed with stories about family and trauma make for some raw and real acoustic songs that come straight from the soul.

Kiah is a 17-year old singer songwriter and guitarist from Melbourne Australia. A proud Yorta Yorta woman, Kiah is passionate about her family and friends and her connection to her country and her people. This is evident in her expertly crafted indie rock songs, which take the listener on a hook-laden storytelling journey of emotion and passion.
