murmurmur (Live at Small Time)
Murmurmur take the twisting riffs and immersive arrangements of 70’s prog and lay them deep down in a jagged psych-rock landscape. It’s a rhythmic drift through an unearthly swamp, the murky depths becoming less tethered to reality with every bend of the stringss
After forming in the living room of a Northcote sharehouse in late 2017, the band released their eponymous debut EP in 2018. Standout singles Cable Car and Marmalade quickly picked up airplay through triple j and community radio and the band appeared on festival lineups around Australia, including Beyond the Valley, Yours and Owls, By The Meadow and Big Sound. What followed was an enforced hibernation.
Over the course of the last year, the band stepped in and out of Melbourne studios, living rooms and bedrooms with producer Oscar Dawson and gradually assembled their Moving Objects EP. Woven into the music is Will’s struggle with insomnia, of gazing out the bedroom window as the night subsides and another day reveals itself – another wander through the irradiant haze. With a glimpse into the existence that Will relays, the listener is left to wonder: what do you hang onto in a world that feels so disconnected?
