Julia Wallace (Live at Small Time)
Growing up in Perth, Julia Wallace is an established performer in the Perth jazz and contemporary music scenes.
Amongst a variety of big bands and small groups, Julia features as a multi-instrumentalist and writer in Perth indie bands ‘Mal de Mer’ and ‘Man Sandal’. Julia started her training in the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts jazz trumpet course, and now at 20 years old, is taking some time to switch directions, focusing on writing and recording her first solo vocal project.
Cultivating her affectionately self-titled genre of ‘bedroom layered slow pop.’ Julia draws musical inspiration from artists such as The Japanese House, James Blake, Julia Jacklin and Angie McMahon. Using layers of brass, piano, and stacked vocals, Julia’s upcoming EP ‘Place in Mind’ has a melodic sensibility that is introspective and self examining, reflecting on past and future love. Julia plays her first solo headline show at Small Time in Melbourne on Sunday 28 February 2021.
*Showcasing new and established artists, Live at Small Time prides itself on variety and the Australian music scene.
