Bec Sykes (Live at Small Time)
Bec Sykes is a singer-songwriter from the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne/Naarm. Layering moody melodies upon simple piano and guitar, Bec uses her voice as an instrument and describes her sound as ‘emo-folk’. In 2020 Bec released her debut single ‘Edithvale’, a piano ballad produced by Tom Iansek (Big Scary, #1 Dads, Maple Glider). After the release Bec was given a spot as a Triple J Unearthed Feature Artist. The track was added to rotation on Triple J and Double J, and played on community radio throughout Australia and the world. In the past two years, Bec has won the Josh Pyke Partnership and Melbourne label Pieater’s ‘Pie School’ competition. She has just released her second single ‘Getaway’. The songwriter likes to spend her time wandering around the forest in the Dandenong Ranges near her home trying to fit words into melodies.
